Creating Beauty with Attention to Detail

I've made close to a hundred copies of Old Masters; mainly in dry pastels, some oils, some acrylics. A simple masterpiece (one or two people) takes about a year to make. I know this is inconceivable in our fast paced world but to make it exceptionally beautiful (You not only put down the form but also the spirit) - that takes time.

These are some of my paintings. For a full version click on painting.

Jewish Wedding in Morocco - Delacroix
Blue Boy - Gainsborough
Flora - Titian
I can accomplish the reproduction faster because: I don't have to conceive of it and I mainly work with dry Pastels (no drying time involved). For Example: The Blue Boy took one and a half months to make, The Mona Lisa and Flora took two months and that's working 6 days a week, 12 to 16 hours a day.

Moses, which was my own creation, took one year and a half. There are 187 people with eyelashes and expressions and it involved research for the implements and dress code.

The only way a master could accomplish an amount of work, without sacrificing quality, was by having apprentices. Take Rubens. He traveled 26 times to Spain to meet with Queen Elisabeth (it is rumored that they had an affair) be that as it may, he stopped the 100 year long occupation of Belgium by Spain. If you consider that traveling to Spain in the 1700's took two to three months and the amount of time he stayed there, it would have been impossible to paint all those paintings by himself. A little unknown fact is that Dali embraced that old tradition, otherwise it would have been impossible to paint 1,022 paintings and 500 drawings of such outstanding quality and detail.
